Great News for eBay Education Specialists

Jeducation specialist trained by eBayust got my September newsletter for eBay’s education specialists and was very pleasantly surprised. They are lowering the renewal prices significantly and across the board!

So if you have allowed your certification to lapse or worried about the upcoming renewal fee – be happy. Here is the new fee schedule.

Renewal RatesI hope this is great news for many!  I am sad to be missing the lunch out at San Jose so hopefully more good news will trickle back from there!

Automatic 5 Star DSR for Free Shipping?

Ina Steiner First I heard the rumor through Ina Steiner in her Auctionbytes column. She said an eBay buyer had sent in a screenshot.

I was excited .  .  .  BUT . . .  was it real – or was someone pulling Ina’s chain?

Then – the news leaked onto Griff’s Facebook page – where he posted what looks like the same screenshot Ina was sent!

And then, I received my PowerUp eBay Magazine and . . . . it made me wonder AGAIN cause the language is so ‘iffy’

Check this out “Starting in October, when you offer Free shipping you COULD automatically get 5-star DSRs for shipping costs when your buyer chooses free shipping” emphasis is mine but WHY use the word COULD instead of WILL?

And then today RBH and the eBayInk Blog say this

“I’ve received some questions about whether sellers will now receive automatic, 5-star DSR’s for free shipping.

I’m pleased to tell you the answer is yes! And, this isn’t a test – effective Aug. 24, we began defaulting the shipping cost DSR to 5 stars when eBay can verify a buyer did not pay for shipping.”

So I GUESS it is safe to say we free shippers are getting automatic 5 star DSR rankings, as we should, IMO, for ‘reasonable shipping charges’. at least, that is MY interpretation TODAY – what do you think?

Quick Update – hat tip to Ina again :)

. eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff said the policy change currently applies only to U.S. and Canada marketplaces and said eBay is evaluating roll-outs to other locations. eBay Ink blogger Andy Chase said via Twitter that the policy would be “coming soon to other sites including UK, DE, AU.”

eCom Experts – Retaining Customers

eCom Experts eCom Experts is a show on Webmaster radio each Monday evening by Shawna (Siegel) Fennell. There is always something to learn and the chat room is very supportive!  Last Monday night I got to be a guest with Shawna talking about getting your customers to come back – we all know that it is much cheaper to get a customer to return than to invest the money in getting new customers – so give it a listen please and let me know what you think?

Is Amazon to Blame for eBay’s slide?

Jim FriedlandJim Friedland of Cowen and Company issued a comprehensive report on Amazon.com and, of special interest to online sellers, covers Amazon’s Fulfillment service and its geographic expansion. Cowen believes Amazon’s selection is a major driver of its growth, stating that Amazon has augmented its selection by around 50% by allowing third party retailers to sell products on its website.

Thanks to Ina Steiner for bringing this gentleman and his report to my attention.

I have participated to a small degree in Amazon’s FBA program and have plans to scale my participation way up. In my opinion, it is a ‘no brainer’ for a small business person like myself who wishes to scale up significantly. Going with a fulfillment service is like hiring a shipping dept, at a much lower cost. Especially if you are selling product on the Amazon platform, Amazon FBA deserves your serious consideration.  I found these further comments and graphs supplied by Mr. Friedland in his report extremely interesting.

“Friedland said FBA significantly enhances conversion rates for third party sellers, and Amazon has put strong incentives in place in the toys and games category for the 2010 holiday season that encourage third party sellers to use FBA. Amazon’s plan to materially increase fulfillment capacity in 2010 was driven in part by increasing FBA adoption, he said. ”Further,” he writes, “we think FBA adoption is a key driver in eBay’s poor recent performance in the U.S. (eBay.s Q2:10 non-vehicle U.S. GMV increased 2%, compared to 37% estimated organic GMV growth for Amazon in North America).”

Interesting to me that he tied the Amazon FBA adoption to lower sales on eBay – hmmmm. And check out these graphs!

Both are from an annual survey Cowen and Company do and both have a lot of food for thought for both eBay and Amazon entrepreneurs. What does this mean for YOUR business?

HELP! My Business Stinks!

Got your attention with that one, eh?  LOL This is a really good resource I want to pass on. It is a website by Andrew Lock. Help my Business SucksThe Website is actually Help! My Business Sucks! but I don’t really like that word, LOL, so I tamed it a bit. Anyway, Andrew is of the belief that ‘Everything is Marketing, and Marketing is Everything’ and about each week he comes out with a new video with lots of great content. There is usually a marketing ‘lesson’ from some big company, most recently it was Starbucks and Harrah’s Casinos, a great online resource to use and more. You can win 3 months of his product, ‘Microwave Marketing’ just by asking a question that he uses on his show. So if you could use a little Razzle Dazzle in your biz – you really should listen to Andrew!

What brought this to mind right now is the most recent “Nifty Click”Chartle that Andrew shared a website called Chartle.com. This site is so cool and there are so many ways to use it my mind is spinning! You can create any type of chart you need for your website, presentation or even a brochure. Create it right there FOR FREE and then either save it to your own hard drive or use their embed code to put it right online from there. Sooo neat! Hope you can enjoy this also!

New Life Event Free Online Education

New Life Event

One of the great things about the internet is the vast amount of free education out there! One of the bad things about the internet is waiting through the sales pitches masquerading as education!  I was introduced to Shawna Siegel (used to be Shawna Fennell) last year in February when she ran this amazing online Event – called the New Life Event – meant to relate to breathing New Life into your business. I was absolutely astounded. Here were some of the TOP internet gurus sharing a wealth of information – all for free. Not only that but I won about $300 in prizes that weekend and so did a LOT of other folks!  Pretty amazing. So I was truly honored to be one of the presenters this year and I hope my presentation on Why and How You Should be on eBay helped a few. I did hear of at least one person opening a store so I’m hoping that went very well for her.

You missed it? Well, no worries, Shawna and her crew spent hours going over all the recorded audio and now ALL the presentations are available for you to listen to on your own schedule. I don’t care what level you are at –  if you are an internet entrepreneur you WILL find some great help here. So click on the banner to go to the home page where all webinars are listed or check out the speakers’ page or just go listen to me, LOL

Many, Many thanks to Shawna Siegel, Rene, AKA Mom and the crew from 1choice4yourstore

Evernote – What do you think

I’ve been running around online for a long time but is it possible I’ve just discovered THE tool to help me keep track of my life?  It looks that way although I’ve only started using it. evernote Usually I try to give credit where due but I can’t even remember who turned me on to this amazing application. It works on my iPhone, it works on my laptop and I can access these notes from ANYWHERE!  Best of all? it’s FREE . . . . you can make short notes in it, like ‘Buy Dog Food now’ or save parts of webpages for blog or newsletter or reading later! Yeah! no more 14+ open windows, which is killing my laptop!

You can download a PC app, there is a ‘webclick’ thing for the websites and an iPhone AND droid app too . . . just go to EVERNOTE and check it out AND report back, please!! cause I’m sure there’s a lot more it can do that I just haven’t discovered yet!

So, even though this is new to me – I’m sure it’s actually been around forever and I would love y’all to tell me how you use it! What do you use it for?

Amazon Bans Refurb Ink and Toner Cartridges

Amazon Bans Refurb Ink and Toner Cartridges

Much thanks to Ina Steiner at Auctionbytes for the info on this one. I remember many times when large groups of sellers were put out of business when eBay made a decision like this one – remember Magazine subscriptions on eBay? or e-books? suddenly – they were no more.  Wonder what this will do to Ink sellers on Amazon?  I’m not a refill fan – too messy for my liking, but I occassionally buy the refilled tanks on eBay – what do you think?
